Zynga, in a hasty and poorly executed attempt to save money has closed its Boston office. On the bright side, a lot of people have been pretty shocked that our particular studio got closed down so that’s nice. Basically, I’m unemployed now. I’m going to take a hiatus from the horribly unstable world of video games to try out the horribly unstable world of comic books.
So, this is my life now.
“UM. EXCUSE ME, BUT THIS IS A MARIS WICKS ORIGINAL.” I also brought with me an original Sam Bosma. I’m excited to get these back.
On the way to SPX my chocolate bar got melted by my power brick. It was in the same pouch as my sketchbook and 100 dollars in singles for change at the show.
Every time I leave an air conditioned room this summer I die a little.
Every time there’s a trailer for some new comic book movie I play out a scene from an outdated drug awareness ad. I’m not interested, I know it’s going to be terrible, but then somebody comes up to me and says hey, just one isn’t going to hurt you. And there it is- one hit and I’m running around like I’m on fire. So yeah, everything up until I saw the Man of Steel trailer looked terrible to me but god damn it that stupid trailer got me RIGHT HERE. I’m pointing at my heart, by the way.
I still have my reservations though. Every time DC takes away Supe’s trunks (which break up the colors in his uniform nicely) it spells out that they’re trying to make him more “real”, which means that they don’t believe in the character. On an related note- new 52 Superman doesn’t have trunks. Just saying.
I used to a do a quick journal comic every day during my freshman year of college, and even though at that time we had so much homework that I was going to bed after 5 and starting studios at 9 I still find that I have less time to do them now than I did then.
PC POLICE, HO!
Fun Erica Fact: I own every issue of Life With Archie because it is my favorite soap opera ever.
Chris Haley told me that I should take a day to do all of the little one page comics I’ve had squirreled away in the back of my head and that’s what I did today. I drew two comics and spent a few hours at Hub Comics talking about comics with Hans Gruber Jesse (manager). All in all a well rounded day.
